It went great. Price I listed as n/a because the price is fixed under the MassSave program. This is the 5th insulation job I’ve had done (multiple houses), and the 3rd insulator I’ve used. ABT was the best of the 3, and they were all pretty good. Israel & Val did the installation, were prompt and enjoyable fellas to have around the house for 2 days. They were very self-sufficient: I just unlocked the house, showed them the electrical breaker & left for work. Tianna did the scheduling & it was effortless. They worked extremely hard & were more rigorous that other providers (e.g. insulated near the electrical service entrance to the house, whereas other providers skipped that part of the wall entirely). They removed & reinstalled aluminum siding, which is prone to dents & damage, but I’ve noticed zero damage.
Description of work: Insulated 2nd FL of a large 3500-sq ft 3-story house, from the outside, removing & reinstalling aluminum siding.

They arrived on time and completed all the insulation work in the attic and garage in one day. The inspector from the Conservation Services Group said the insulation work was performed according to their strict standards.
Description of work: After I got fed up with Next Step Living, I found American Building Technologies to complete the insulation work. American Building Technologies gave me knowledgeable advice on my idea about the attic and executed the air sealing and insulation excellently. They also did a great job making an easier entrance for the attic space.

Overall it went well. The crew was prompt and did a great job cleaning up after each day. I graded a B for quality due to a few miss haps that can happen when doing this kind of work in an old house. They hit a water pipe to my tenants unit. the pip was mounted to the outside wall so was hard not to hit it. They also hit an electric wire. I say it’s expected because they have to drill into the side of the house and at a minimum there will be wiring that could possible get hit. I had my plumber and electrician fix the issues and ABT promptly reimbursed the costs

They didn’t make it to the first appt bc they were running so late so we rescheduled. The second appt. they were about an hour late for. I was told I would receive an estimate via email in the next day or two. I called two days later to check-up on the status of the estimate. It is now two weeks later and I am still waiting for an estimate.
Description of work: Came to give an estimate about insulating heating pipes for steam heat system.

I originally had brought in four groups to provide estimates for the above described work. We have a very difficult to access space in the attic over the bedrooms due to a chimney and central air unit. One provider seemingly did not want to do this work and go in there and quoted me over 3 times what I ended up paying. Two providers had more reasonable estimates for their work, while another was honest and told me that their installation method (Icynene) was probably not appropriate for the work and referred me to Romaine’s group at ABT. They were the last group in, they were very thorough with their estimate and were the ONLY contractor who was familiar with the Marblehead Energy Rebate program – which allows customers who get insulation work to receive up to $1600 in cash rebates off of your final bill. (The $4500 figure above was cost for me before rebate – my net cost will be closer to $3000 due to rebate) They were very familiar with the program and the individuals in town and handled all the organization with them. Ultimately the quoted price from ABT was in line with estimates from other groups and we went with ABT for the work. They were scheduled to come out approximately 3 weeks after agreeing on contract, however we got a call 2 days after the estimate was done and ABT was able to get our job done within 3 days. Work took one full day and included some additional work on the outer walls that was not originally in my quote. Their team was able to get most everything done in that one day, although they did have to come back as the thermaldome did not fit my space and they had to create a custom dome. Additionally, some caulking on the outer walls needed to be done as they ran out of caulk. That work was completed one week later – they are coming back today to reevaluate the walls with infrared to make sure there are no gaps in the insulation and to also look at a tricky kneewall area where getting the cellulose in proved extremely difficult. Overall, terrific experience and great communication with their group.
Description of work: I hired ABT to perform insulation services on my single family expanded cape. Services performed included cellulose foam insulation in the attic over four second level bedrooms, dense packing of approximately 1000 square feet of wall space with cellulose, installation of flashing around chimney and installation of a custom thermaldome over the attic stairway entry.
