What is Spray Foam?

Spray polyurethane foam, commonly referred to as SPF or simply Spray Foam is a spray-applied insulating foam plastic that is sprayed on as a liquid. Once applied it quickly expands finding and filling every nail hole, gap, nook and cranny which exists within every building envelope providing a complete air seal which other insulations cannot do.

Specialized equipment is used to apply the spray polyurethane foam and proper technical training is important in order to get the best results. Once spray foam is applied as a liquid it quickly expands finding and filling every nook and cranny.

Spray polyurethane foam is the king of building materials for multitasking. For moisture it can provide high levels of R-Value, while providing air barriers and assistance in moister control in buildings. For roofing, spray polyurethane foam insulates and eliminates thermal bridging through fasteners or gaps in decking while providing a long-lasting roofing system that has a life that can be extended by re-coating or recovering in an average of > 10 – 15 years. As a result spray polyurethane foam is used in a wide variety of applications.

The Department of US energy sites that 40% of a buildings energy is lost by air infiltration alone. Spray foam blocks 100% of all air infiltration making it the most effective insulation money can buy.

Spray foam offers little to no vapor permeability, zero air infiltration, tremendous sound control, and structural strength. It can slash your energy bills between 50 to 80%.

Our spray foam is so cost effective it has the shortest payback period and the highest return on investment over any other Energy Star rated / renewable building product. Within 1 to 2 years it will not only pay for itself but will offer year over year returns on your investment. In comparison to other high performance energy products, Solar panels and geo-thermal heating and cooling offer the next best return on your investment with an average 8-10 year payback. Our spray foam is the number one return on your investment, 5x higher than solar or geothermal.

Why Use Spray Foam Insulation?

Reduce Your Energy Bills
Our spray foam is the most energy efficient insulation money can buy. Unlike fiberglass bitts, which do not stop air leakage, our spray foam insulation is an air barrier which offers zero air leakage and is classified as an Air Barrier. The air barrier aspects of our spray foam alone can account for a 40% energy savings given a full envelope encapsulation with our spray foam. This savings coupled with the ability to downsize HVAC units by an average of 40% concludes a total energy savings greater than 50% in many applications.

Colonial Green Product’s spray foam’s air sealing qualities combined with it’s high R-values of up to 6.9 per inch make it the most effective insulation on the market and can save you up to 50% or more on your utility bills.

Enjoy Cleaner and Healthier Indoor Air
Our spray foam insulation reduces the penetration of outdoor allergens, pollutants and moisture which negatively affect indoor air quality. Additionally, sealing your home with spray foam helps to keep out rodents and insects as it seals tiny cracks left unfilled with conventional insulations.

Improve Your Home’s Value
Home inspections coupled with lower energy bills will certify your home’s thermal efficiency and value. Investing in spray foam will boost your home’s resale value making it the best investment money can buy.

Experience Peace and Quiet
Our spray foam has a high Sound Transmission Control rating. Due to spray foam’s complete air seal, unwanted external noise will be eliminated as well as offering superior interior sound control.

Enjoy Consistent Climates
Our spray foam is classified as an air barrier, therefore eliminating drafts, hot spots and cold spots delivery a consistent climate throughout your home.

Relax in a Safer Home
Spray foam can increase your home’s structural strength up to 3 times. Given the high compressive and tensile strength and the ability to act as a bonding agent in the walls and roof deck, Colonial Green Product’s spray foam effectively glues your entire home together as one monotheistic seamless structure increasing your protection and safety from hurricanes, storms and high winds.

Promote Green, Eco-Friendly Practices
Our highly efficient building envelope enables buildings to be heated and cooled with the least possible consumption of natural resources reducing the carbon footprint of your home by at least 40%.

How is Spray Foam installed?

Spray Foam insulation is sprayed into place into a wall or roof cavity by a certified professional. Spray Foam insulation can be sprayed after electrical and plumbing services are in place. It can also be poured into existing walls without removal. Spray foam then expands to up to 100 times its initial volume in seconds, permanently adhering to the surfaces of the surrounding building materials and sealing all gaps, cracks, crevices, and seams creating a completely efficient home or building.

Spray Foam Roofing

Spray Polyurethane Foam has been used as a roofing and insulation material for over 40 years. It was once considered to just be an alternative to built-up roofing; foam roofing now protects a wide range of buildings and can be used in all types of roofing situations, from traditional flat roofs to unusual designs. There are numerous benefits that spray foam roofing provides. The two main benefits are waterproofing/leak prevention and insulation value. Foam roofing systems can be applied quickly with very little and sometimes no disruption to the facilities. Spray foam roofing has proven to be dependable and very affordable.

No seams or joints
Can be used on any surface and any roof shape
Lightweight (around 50lbs. per square)
Foam roofing offers the best insulating properties available for commercial construction
Require minimum maintenance
Weather resistant
Durable/long lasting with indefinite lifespan

Replacing an Existing Roof
In most cases, spray foam roofing does not require removal of the existing roof. Once the roof is cleaned of loose debris and free of any moisture, sprayed polyurethane foam can be directly applied over asphalt, shingles, built-up roofs, clay tile, concrete, metal, and wood.

How it works
Sprayed Polyurethane Foam is applied as a liquid using plural-component spray equipment to fill cracks and crevices. It then expands approximately 30 times its original liquid volume to form a hard, closed cell monolithic roof surface. The Polyurethane Foam dries within seconds after applied to the roof surface. Its expansion results in a weather tight roofing membrane that is fully adhered to the substrate. Because of polyurethane’s lightweight it adds little additional weight to the structure and is often used in remedial applications. Polyurethane Foam has a history of more than 35 years as a maintainable roofing medium. Polyurethane Foam adds excellent insulation value to the structure and utility bills can reflect the difference.

Once the SPF has been applied to the proper thickness and finish specifications, a protective layer of elastomeric coating or gravel is applied. This protective layer produces a durable weather resistant surface and that can be walked on for normal maintenance.
